About Jackie & Kelly ::

The story of Midbest Threads starts when both my sister and I (Jackie) were pregnant. My mother (Kelly) quit her job, sold her house in the country and moved to the city to be close to us. When my son was about 6 months old, I bought my mother a serger for her birthday. It only took a few hours before she had several outfits whipped up for him. We talked about starting our own business and selling the clothes but we kept thinking of reasons why we shouldn’t. Finally, a few months later we decided to give it a shot. We knew we wanted to make cute, comfy clothes and thought we could use a little extra money.

We decided to separate the tasks to what we do best. My mother would do the sewing and I would be in charge of ordering, shipping, and marketing. With some help from friends we came up with our name MidBest Threads. We are proud Kansas Citians who think the “midbest” is pretty great place to live.

The first few months were slow, as with any new business. It only took us a month or two before we found Girl Charlee Fabrics. We were so excited to find quality, affordable solid and printed cotton knits. Most of our best selling items are prints from Girl Charlee!
