MIY Collection is about everyday dressmaking, focusing on modern classic styles which can be created by sewers with any level of experience and worn by anyone. MIY patterns are designed by Wendy Ward, author of the bestselling book 'The Beginner's Guide to Dressmaking', experienced designer and qualified teacher. Wendy has been writing instructions for people learning to sew since 2007, so MIY Collection patterns are easy to follow, explained in down-to-earth language with clear, detailed diagrams.
Your new favourite alternative to a t-shirt this pattern is fairly loose fitting although it is shaped in a bit at the waist so it's not completely shapeless. The vest is nice and long so you won't be flashing off your midriff and the dress works with both bare legs in summer as well as over leggings or jeans. Both options are included in the pattern as are instructions for adding extra seams so that you can combine different fabrics. It's a great project to start sewing as it's super easy if made all in one fabric and is really quick to sew.

You're going to make loads of these! This small bolero style shrug is a quick project and a really versatile style - in a knit with a lurex sparkly thread it's a great cover-up for an evening out, with a silk satin body it would be a lovely addition to a wedding outfit or in a casual single jersey stripe or sweatshirt fabric you can layer it with t-shirts and jeans. It has double layer neckband and cuffs which can be made in contrast fabric.

You're going to love this dress; it's so versatile and can be made in lots of different versions and fabrics. It is basically a loose fitting pull-on shift dress with no fastenings making it a brilliant first dressmaking project. There are 2 different finishes for the neck - a roll-over collar or simple bound boat neck, optional side seam pockets and optional tie belt. You can customize it further by making it with the optional pleats or just using the bodice to make a simple boxy top. It's cool worn on its own for summer and makes a great layering piece worn with long sleeved t-shirts and leggings for winter.

You will live in this cardigan! Its generous draped front is seriously flattering and you can wrap it around yourself when you want to be really cosy. The deep neckband and hemband and foldback cuffs can be made in contrast fabric.
