Tutorial Tuesday :: How To Sew A Top From An Existing Top from DIY Crush

Everyone has that favorite top in their wardrobe that is incredibly comfortable to wear and fits just right. What happens when it wears out? For this weeks Tutorial Tuesday, we have How To Sew A Top From An Existing Top from Denise Knapp of DIY Crush, perfect for recreating your favorite garments without the additional purchase of a new sewing pattern. This tutorial is so easy to follow because Denise takes you every step of the way with numbered photographs as well as detailed instructions and personal tips and tricks. Enjoy!

When sewing up her neck band, Denise describes using many pins and sewing very slowly to ensure a professional look. This way the fabric remains straight and no unnecessary folds are created. As you can see below, Denise also does not topstitch her neck band since is it not necessary with the fabric that she is using.

Suggested fabrics include lightweight knits such as cotton jersey or hacci knits that are great for many seasonless applications. A few of my picks from the store:

We hope you enjoy this tutorial! We love to see what you sew up so please send 1-2 images of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to gcblog@girlcharlee.com and you might see your creation featured in our next KnitPicks!

Happy Sewing!
