Girl Charlee Fabrics :: Embrace Your Fix Contest Update Week 2

Girl Charlee Fabric's very own Heather Peterson is {Embracing} her own fix this month, and we have our next installment from Heather on her progress with sewing her August KnitFIX!

Hello Fellow Fixers! I hope you are all having fun picking out your patterns and getting your lovely KnitFix fabrics cut and ready to sew... or even sewing, sewing, sewing.  My time is pretty limited with the day-to-day of running Girl Charlee Fabrics and of my house with two dogs, two kids, and one hubby.  Keeping that in mind, I decided to cut and assemble all 8 (EEK) of my selected patterns out assembly-line-style to knock out all the cutting at once.  Here we go!
It took me about 3 1/2 hours total to cut all the patterns out, much longer than I thought it would as I missed a few pieces somehow when printing them out and had to keep running back to my computer.  Waaaah, but SUCCESS!!
I decided to start with my least favorite fabric, but my favorite pattern.  This fabric is very popular with all our FIXers, and it is very beautiful, but the colors are just not my usual taste in clothing for myself.
The See Kate Sew Dreamer Top Sewing Pattern & Aztec Bright Stripes Cotton Jersey Blend Knit

I had some fun cutting this pattern out with the variations in the fabric pattern in an attempt to add some interest to the same fabric neckline and sleeve bands.  A quick read through the instructions and away we go!
Don't you just love it when you pins match your fabric?
A quick 20-30 minutes later and done!  I really like the way the top came out with this fabric as the pattern really is a lot of fun.  I vow to wear this with my white capri's before summer's end...
Up next is my Mommy & Me challenge of a cropped tee for me and a cropped dolman style top for Miss Charlee.
Named Clothing Inari T-Shirt Dress and Cropped Tee Sewing Pattern + EYMM Carlie's Dolman Top & Tunic Sewing Pattern & Black White 1" Stripe Cotton Jersey Knit

Both of these patterns were very easy to follow, and it really allowed me to practice more on my Janome CoverPro 900 coverstitch machine.  If you do not have a coverstitch machine, and are serious about sewing with knits, I highly recommend this model.  I placed a piece of tape with a penned stitched line to help show where I need to keep the fabric positioned to perfectly line up the cover stitch that happens on the underside of the fabric where you cannot see.
Here is my Inari cropped top, which has a really cute folded sleeve detailing.
Miss Charlee's Carlie's Dolman Top.  Now I cannot wait to wear this with her!
I want to give a shout out to all the FIXER's who pay so much attention to lining up their stripes.  I never have paid attention to it before, but I did try really hard to line up both my patterns and I do like the clean finish it gives :)

Next up is the Nicola Wrap Dress.  See you then!

We cannot wait to see your entries to the Girl Charlee Fabrics KnitFix Sewing Contest!  This month we are challenging each of our Fixers to {Embrace} Your KnitFix and sew up each of your included 6 fabrics for a chance to win one of three FREE September KnitFix.  How it works:
  • Purchase an August KnitFix from Girl Charlee Fabrics while quantities last.
  • Sew up each of the 6 included fabrics from a KnitFix, no swapping or selling or substitution of different fabrics is allowed.  The idea is to use the original 6 fabrics included in your KnitFix.  If you purchased more than one KnitFix, pick the bag you like the best and sew up those 6, no mixing and matching please!
  • You can use any sewing pattern.
  • By September 6th*, create a photo album with all 6 of your completed fabric creations on our KnitFix Facebook group and hashtag #embraceyourfix #girlcharlee.  If you are not on Facebook, be sure to tag @girlcharlee and use the hashtags #embraceyourfix #girlcharlee so we can find you.  If you want to email us your entries, please send them to gcblog@girlcharlee.com.
  • Three lucky winners will be randomly drawn and announced on Monday September 7th!
*Entries must be posted on social media by September 6th at 11:59PM PT. Contest open to contestants with a contiguous USA shipping address only.
Happy sewing!

  1. I've already cut and started to sew my first two fabrics. Still trying to decide on the perfect projects for the other four. I love the spirit of this contest; being pushed out of my comfort zone and trying new things, it's good for me!
