Tutorial Tuesday :: Winter Shirt Dress by Elle Apparel

While working on our Fall fabric collection I have been inspired to sew more dresses for the upcoming season!  To get us started I have for this weeks Tutorial Tuesday this beautiful and easy to sew Winter Shirt Dress Tutorial from Leanne Barlow of Elle Apparel. What I love about this tutorial is that it offers step-by-step instruction and photographs and allows you to use a wide range of fabrics depending on how heavy or light you want to make it.  The tutorial shows construction of the dress but you can view the gorgeous finished dress here!
A good tip Leanne provides on gather is to sew slowly and pay close attention so that the gathers stay in place and the machine does not flatter them.  Have a serger on hand?  I love to gather using a serger as it is really quick and easy and they do not unravel.  Here is a good guide if you want to give it a try!
Leanne offers a great hemming suggestion.  Once you determine your perfect length, iron the bottom under 1/4", then under again 3/8", and then sew in place to create a professional looking hem.
A medium weight fabric will keep you warm in the cooler seasons. A few of my picks from the store:
We hope you enjoy this tutorial and please send 1-2 images of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to gcblog@girlcharlee.com and you might see your creation featured in our next KnitPicks!

Happy sewing!
