There were only two changes to the original pattern design to make this adorable color blocked soleil. First, cut the front bodice piece with a curved line that resembles the cut out on the back, and add a 1/4 inch seam to these two pieces to attach them.
The only other pattern change was to add a band to the bottom of the dress. Cherie first added the band because she didn't have enough of the pink fabric, but it turned out to be a happy accident that brings the whole dress together!

Cotton jersey and cotton spandex are perfect for the soleil dress. When color blocking, it can be a lot of fun to mix solids and prints. A few of my picks from the store:
