Tutorial Tuesday :: Fit and Flare Dress by The Stitching Scientist

Fit and flare dresses are so in right now and I love them!  Who doesn't like timeless, flattering, and versatile all in one garment.  Definite winner!  Remona of The Stitching Scientist has put together this easy to follow Fit and Flare Dress tutorial and free pattern to show how simple making one of these dresses can be.  Perfect for the work to evening transition I think I need to make a couple of these in different prints.

When comes to connecting the bottom and top parts of the dress, Remona has some important suggestions. She suggests using the longest stitch on your machine to gather about 1/2" from the top of the bottom piece. Then you pull the thread until it fits the bottom of the top part of the dress.

Most knits with a little stretch would work perfectly with this dress. Don't forget to try it in some fun prints! A few of my picks from the store:

We hope you enjoy this tutorial and please send 1-2 images of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to gcblog@girlcharlee.com and you might see your creation featured in our next KnitPicks!

Happy sewing!

  2. Totally loved this awesome tutorial to stitch a fit and flare dress. I would love to sew one as well for myself. I don't have a sewing machine yet. Can you recommend a sewing machine for beginners?
