Girl Charlee + Cricut Maker :: Lady Liberty Embellished Skirt Tutorial

Today I am going to show you how to use your Cricut Maker to put some red, white, and BLING on our Color Block Pencil Skirt!
This tutorial is just how to embellish the bottom portion of the color blocked skirt.  If you want to follow the skirt tutorial click here!

MATERIALS

STEP 1: OPEN THE LADY LIBERTY EMBELLISHED PENCIL SKIRT IN DESIGN SPACE

You will see the different patriotic elements, and just decide which one you want to make and in which color and size based on where you will be applying them.  Note that for the starburst elements you cannot go too small or else the tiny endpoints become difficult to cut and weed, especially if in the thicker glitter iron-on.  Click the "Make It" button to proceed to the mat preparation and layout screen.

STEP 2:  ATTACH MATERIALS  TO MATS

We are using 4 different types/colors of iron on so the program automatically lays out each different color on different mats.  I like to be a little more efficient so I cut the appropriate size of material in my selected color and then by using the layout screen I can move two pieces that both use the iron-on lite vinyl (as they use the same cut settings) to make those two cuts on the same mat!  I use the iron on materials setting.

    Don't forget to MIRROR!!

For the Glitter Iron-on vinyl, it is thicker than the Iron-on Lite so I use the Metallic Vinyl setting and also with more pressure in the settings.  For the gold glitter, I actually had to cut it twice to get the smaller endpoints on the starbursts so test before you finish your cuts and remove the mat from the machine so you can just push the C button.

STEP 3:  IRON ONTO KNIT FABRIC PIECE

Heat up your Easy Press to 305 degrees Fahrenheit.  This is a little bit higher temperature than recommended for knit fabrics, but I find when using the Easy Press Mat that the temps need to be set a little bit higher as the mat absorbs some of the heat.

Layout your pieces where you want them to be and then start pressing.  With your completed fabric piece you can now finish your color blocked pencil skirt to wear to your next BBQ!!
