Tutorial Tuesday :: Ruffled Dress from Make It & Love It

One way to add more color and texture into your little ones wardrobe is by lining her garments with ruffles! This Ruffled Dress Tutorial from Ashley of Make It & Love It shows you how to transform a basic tee into a fun ruffled dress, using just a few small pieces of coordinating fabrics. Click here for the entire tutorial and happy sewing!

In her tutorial, Ashley uses a store bought t-shirt, but you can also make your own! Below are a few of our favorites, but be sure to shop from our entire collection of indie sewing patterns at Girl Charlee Fabrics.

This tutorial includes clear images and written descriptions to help you every step of the way, from measuring your fabrics to attaching the finished ruffles to the shirt. Ashley also links to this handy tutorial for gathering knit fabrics with a basting stitch.

Most stretch knits like Cotton Jersey and Cotton Lycra will work perfectly for this dress. Since each ruffle requires very little fabric, I recommend ordering a 1/4 Yard Mystery Mix Lot (currently on sale for HALF OFF!). A few of my picks from the store:
We hope you enjoy this tutorial! We love to see what you sew up so please send 1-2 images* of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to gcblog@girlcharlee.com and you might see your creation featured in our next Knit Picks!
*Please note that all images submitted are subject for Girl Charlee promotional use.

Happy Sewing!
