Tutorial Tuesday :: Tips & Tricks for Sewing Knits with The Sew and Tell Project

Many new customers contact us for advice on sewing with knits, and for this weeks Tutorial Tuesday we partnered with Genie and Eleri of The Sew and Tell Project to offer customers and readers Tips and Tricks for Sewing Knits using their favorite BOLT by Girl Charlee Cotton Spandex Knits. In their post, they share some of their incredibly useful knowledge on simple finishing techniques, cowl necks, and so much more. Enjoy!

To get started, Genie and Eleri used these two indie sewing patterns for their tops - Hey June Aurora Tee Sewing Pattern and Love Notions Womens La Bella Donna Top and Tunic Sewing Pattern. The techniques they demonstrate are perfect for just about any knit fabric sewing project, so be sure to shop our entire collection of indie sewing patterns here!

What I love most about this blog post is just how thorough it is! No matter your sewing experience level, you will learn something new! Between all of the techniques that they review, Genie and Eleri also talk about their tools (i.e. wonder clips to prevent fabrics from shifting and fusible hem tape for a perfect hem every time) along with which machines and stitches they use.

For both tops, Genie and Eleri used BOLT by Girl Charlee Knits. These high quality 100% Made in the USA combed cotton spandex knits are preshrunk and perfect for many applications, including beautiful tops, dresses, leggings, and more! A few of my picks from the store:
We hope you enjoy this tutorial! We love to see what you sew up so please send 1-2 images of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to gcblog@girlcharlee.com and you might see your creation featured in our next Knit Picks!

Happy Sewing!
