Tutorial Tuesday :: Draft Your Own Simple Dolman Top from Sew Country Chick

The best part about drafting your own sewing patterns is that the finished garments will fit your body perfectly. For this weeks Tutorial Tuesday, we have an excellent tutorial that teaches you how to do just that! Justine of Sew Country Chick demonstrates Drafting Your Own Simple Dolman Top, and it is so simple and cute that you'll want to recreate it again and again. As an added bonus, Justine includes several tips and ideas on how to use that same pattern to create many similar tops and even dresses. Happy sewing!

All you need to start creating your new pattern is freezer paper, a tape measure, and a ruler. The step-by-step instructions of this tutorial are easy to follow, with thorough descriptions that match up with pictures and illustrations.

Suggested fabrics for this top include light to mid weight knits with a good drape like cotton jersey,  cotton lycra, and hacci sweater. A few of my picks from the store:
Dark Fuchsia Pink Solid Cotton Spandex Knit FabricHeather Gray and White Stripe Cotton Jersey Blend Knit Fabric
Pink Periwinkle Small Floral Garden Cotton Spandex Blend Knit Fabric Sangria Bird Silhouette on Rainbow Heather Hacci Sweater Knit Fabric
We hope you enjoy this tutorial! We love to see what you sew up so please send 1-2 images of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to gcblog@girlcharlee.com and you might see your creation featured in our next KnitPicks!

Happy Sewing!
