Girl Charlee Fabrics Knitty News :: Wardrobe Essentials Part 3

Welcome to Part 3 of our Knit-tastic Wardrobe Essentials blog series!  Throughout the month of January, we are discussing many basic knit wardrobe essentials to help you create the perfect handmade wardrobe that is wearable for the entire year.  Part 1 featured the basic tee, part 2 the sweater and cardigan. For the third installment of our series we bring you one of my favorite wardrobe staples - the Pencil Skirt.

What makes pencil skirts such an essential garment in your wardrobe is that they are both comfortable to wear and can be styled up or down for almost any occasion! Pencil skirts are perfect for the office with a tucked in blouse or fitted tee, on date night with and tank and some cute heels, and even worn casually on the weekends with a slouchy tee. Not to mention that they are incredibly easy to sew up! Below are a few of our favorite pencil skirt sewing tutorials to help get you started ::

When sewing your new skirt, you'll want to pick a knit fabric with a good amount of stretch, and depending on how you want your skirt feel you could use ponte de roma, cotton jersey, cotton lycra, or lycra spandex fabrics. A few of my picks from the store ::
