Tutorial Tuesday :: Sewing Panties Tutorial from Very Purple Person

Have you ever thought about sewing your own panties? I don't know about you, but it can be such a challenge to find panties that fit just right, and I recently discovered just how easy they are to sew! Novita from Very Purple Person posted this fantastic sewing tutorial as a guest post of the Stretch Yourself series with Mad Mim and One Little Minute. These panties are definitely worth a try because they are so much easier to make than you would have every expected!

One thing that I love about this tutorial is how thorough Novita gets in regards to various types of elastic. She sews up the same pair of panties three times, each using a different type of elastic, to demonstrate the pros and cons. When sewing the elastic to the fabric, she points that that it's important to only stretch the elastic and not the fabric as you sew.

To sew your own underwear you'll need a stretch fabric like Cotton Jersey or Cotton Lycra. A few of my picks from the store:

In her tutorial Novita links to three different FREE Sewing Pattern options for panties. If you're looking for more options, below are a few underwear sewing patterns available in the Girl Charlee Fabrics Indie Pattern Shop.
We hope you enjoy this tutorial! We love to see what you sew up so please send 1-2 images of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to gcblog@girlcharlee.com and you might see your creation featured in our next KnitPicks!

Happy sewing!
