Tutorial Tuesday :: The Petit Pan Top by Winter Wear Designs

The feminine and classic peter pan collars have been trendy since the early 1900s and are certainly making quite a comeback as of late!  Suzanne Winter of Pattern Revolution & Winter Wear Designs has a free sewing pattern and instructions tutorial on how to make this sweet child's Petit Pan Top.  The tutorial is very clear, with step-by-step instructions and photos, and can be downloaded to your computer for FREE.  Your little one is sure to make a charming fashion statement in this trendy top. Great job on your first pattern Suzanne!
One thing that I love about this pattern is all of the possible variations.  Each one has it's own completely unique look. Suzanne also points out that this pattern can work for up-cycling old t-shirts, or even incorporating personal embellishments for additional customization.
The recommended fabric for the bodice is a stretchy knit, so Suzanne's pattern includes some great tips for working with knits: "Make sure you are using a stretch/ball point needle... Do not pull fabric as you sew... Press well with steam to help your fabric regain its original shape..."
Suzanne suggests using a knit with 30% or more stretch. That is a ton of options for fabrics!  A few of my picks from the store:
We hope you enjoy this tutorial and please send 1-2 images of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to gcblog@girlcharlee.com and you might see your creation featured in our next KnitPicks!

Happy sewing!
