Tutorial Tuesday :: Inspired by ModCloth Academy Dress from Un Petite Design

A lot of women struggle to find that happy medium between style and comfort, especially when you work from home or balance the job and family or a combination of it all!  As I run around a warehouse most days I find my wardrobe choices going between my skinny jeans or yoga pants, ho hum.  In looking for cozy, stylish alternatives to sew up I happened upon this great dress tutorial by Jennifer at Un Petite Design.  Jennifer has put together an awesome tutorial Inspired by ModCloth Academy Dress. Her step-by-step instructions are so easy to follow and the result is this cozy and stylish dress!

Jennifer has an excellent tip about using fusible interfacing to add stability in certain spots on the dress. She also points out that she presses the seams really well to create crisp finished edges. I love how she does everything she can to execute her dress beautifully. It doesn't even look home-made.

Jennifer also has a great solution to the waistline. By shirring the waistline with elastic thread, you can add a feminine touch that adds a decorative appeal and is super flattering to boot!

Most light to mid weight knits would work great with this dress. Don't forget to try it out in some fun prints for added pop! A few of my picks from the store:

Happy sewing!
