We are excited to announce the addition of London-based CocoWawa Crafts to our collection of indie sewing patterns! Included are an assortment of seasonless patterns designed with a fun, youthful aesthetic in mind to add a quirky touch to your wardrobe. Below is more about CocoWawa Crafts, along with the entire collection of new patterns paired with coordinating fabrics from the shop. Enjoy!

CocoWawa Crafts
CocoWawa Crafts is an independent brand based in London, loving cute, comfy designs and geometric shapes with a sweet aesthetic for both women and girls. Simple and nice patterns for all sewing levels that you can make and wear all year around. Ana Valls, the mind behind CocoWawa, is a sewing pattern designer, teacher, vlogger and host of the popular #sewinghourchat on Instagram.

The super comfy Chestnut Sweater and Top sewing pattern comes with two different options and lots of possibilities to play around with. First, you can opt for the sweater with three bow options or the top with the same alternatives. Version A of either of them has a lovely circular opening at the back that closes with a big bow; version B sports four bows at the back closing the bodice; and option C offers a more subtle bow alternative with a nice slit or vent at the shoulder. The top has a slightly longer back and two slits at either side; meanwhile, the sweater offers two sleeve lengths: 3/4 and long sleeves. Take a good look at all the options and pieces on before you decide.

Try one of these fabrics:
The lovely Lily is a delicate cocoon shaped dress, that can be transformed into a lovely blouse, with a long seam running at the back, inseam pockets, two sleeve raglan options (long and short), cuffs, a small button placket at the front and its main feature, a fun original sailor collar. The Lily Dress and Blouse make the perfect combo for any season depending on the type of fabric you choose and the version you go for. This way you can make it your own.

Try one of these fabrics:
The lovely Marshmallow is a sweet trapeze dress, with a loose, comfy fit and a fun ruffle, Peter Pan collar and optional cute bow. It comes with three different sleeve options: 3/4 sleeves and cuffs, short sleeves or sleeveless. The Marshmallow dress can be dressed up or down, from a Christmas party to a wedding, from a walk around town to the office with a belt for a close fitted look. This is the women's version of the Mini Marshmallow Dress.

The garment aimed for kids keeps its sweet trapeze shape, with a loose, comfy fit and a fun ruffle, Peter Pan collar and optional cute bow. There are also three sleeve options: 3/4 sleeves, short sleeves and sleeveless, so depending on the fabric you choose, it can be worn all year around. This is the children's version of the Marshmallow Dress.

Tutorial Tuesday :: Ruffled Dress from Make It & Love It

One way to add more color and texture into your little ones wardrobe is by lining her garments with ruffles! This Ruffled Dress Tutorial from Ashley of Make It & Love It shows you how to transform a basic tee into a fun ruffled dress, using just a few small pieces of coordinating fabrics. Click here for the entire tutorial and happy sewing!

In her tutorial, Ashley uses a store bought t-shirt, but you can also make your own! Below are a few of our favorites, but be sure to shop from our entire collection of indie sewing patterns at Girl Charlee Fabrics.

This tutorial includes clear images and written descriptions to help you every step of the way, from measuring your fabrics to attaching the finished ruffles to the shirt. Ashley also links to this handy tutorial for gathering knit fabrics with a basting stitch.

Most stretch knits like Cotton Jersey and Cotton Lycra will work perfectly for this dress. Since each ruffle requires very little fabric, I recommend ordering a 1/4 Yard Mystery Mix Lot (currently on sale for HALF OFF!). A few of my picks from the store:
We hope you enjoy this tutorial! We love to see what you sew up so please send 1-2 images* of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to gcblog@girlcharlee.com and you might see your creation featured in our next Knit Picks!
