Tutorial Tuesday :: DIY Leggings Pocket from The Petite Sewist

Women's pants rarely include pockets, let alone pockets large enough for your cell phone, so I was incredibly excited to find this DIY Leggings Pocket Tutorial from Stephanie of The Petite Sewist! This two-part tutorial takes you every step of the way from editing an existing leggings pattern to proper assembly of your new leggings. Click here for the entire tutorial and happy sewing!

For this project you'll need a copy of your favorite leggings sewing pattern with separate left leg, right leg, and waistband pieces. Below are a few of our favorites from the shop, and you can find all of our women's pants and leggings indie sewing patterns here!

Stephanie provides clear, concise instructions for drafting the edits to your original pattern with simple illustrations, like the example below.
For your new leggings, you will need a knit fabric with a good amount of four way stretch like Cotton Lycra, Brushed Poly Spandex, and Lycra Spandex. A few of my picks from the store:
We hope you enjoy this tutorial! We love to see what you sew up so please send 1-2 images* of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to and you might see your creation featured in our next Knit Picks!

Tilly and the Buttons two new maternity sewing patterns are now available at Girl Charlee! The updated Bettine and Agnes patterns are perfectly designed with mamas needs and growing belly in mind. Both patterns are simple, fast sews with a comfortable fit and feature multiple customization opportunities. Below is more about each new pattern along with our selection of coordinating knit fabrics from the shop. Enjoy!

Tilly and the Buttons designer Tilly Walnes creates gorgeous, easy-to-use sewing patterns for the new wave of DIY dressmakers. Tilly combines her passion for dressmaking with over ten years' experience in designing to create refreshingly clear instructions and photos of each step, her patterns will help you to create adorable clothes you’ll feel proud to say you made yourself. Even if you’re a new stitcher!

Show off your curvalicious mama-to-be shape in this close-fitting top or dress. Designed for stretchy jersey fabric, it’s speedy to sew, simple to fit, and comfortable to wear. Choose from long-line top or knee-length dress, with plain or ruched sweetheart neckline, and cropped, three-quarter or full length sleeves. The stretchy, ruched front bodice creates space for your growing bump throughout pregnancy. The top can also be made with adjustable drawstrings to gather or loosen the fabric as your shape changes.
This easy-peasy throw-it-over-your-head dress will make you feel stylish and comfortable throughout your pregnancy. The button front version is also perfect for breastfeeding once baby has arrived. Simple to sew, Bettine has a blousy bodice with scoop neckline, kimono sleeves, turn-up cuffs, optional cuff tabs and knee-length skirt. The narrow elasticated empire waist channel sits above the bump, and can be defined further with the optional waist tie. Make it in woven fabric with a neckline facing, or make the plain version in stretchy jersey with a neckband for ultimate comfort.
View and purchase these sewing patterns and more on! If you sew up any of these patterns with our fabrics please send us images as we would love to see it and you could be featured on our monthly Knit Picks. Email your pictures to
