Tutorial Tuesday :: The Sunny Swing Tee with FREE Sewing Pattern from The Sara Project

Handmade tees can be both trendy & one-of-a-kind, and today's Tutorial Tuesday features this lovely color-blocked Sunny Swing Tee Tutorial With FREE Sewing Pattern from Sara Johansen of The Sara Project. Spring is just around the corner and this flattering blouse is perfect for the transition to warmer weather. Pick up a couple yards of complimentary fabrics from the shop, and start sewing!

My favorite thing about this project is that it gives you full creative freedom to mix and match different patterns and fabrics for a fun, unique look every time! Sara's shirt features the classic floral and stripe combination, but you can also play with dots, novelty prints, solids, and more!

This shirt can be sewn in many different fabrics including Cotton Jersey, Cotton Lycra, Ponte de Roma, and Brushed Poly Spandex. In Sara's example she uses a striped Ponte along with a floral Specialty Woven Fabric for the middle piece. A few of my picks from the store:
We hope you enjoy this tutorial! We love to see what you sew up so please send 1-2 images of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to gcblog@girlcharlee.com and you might see your creation featured in our next Knit Picks!

Happy Sewing!

  1. I was hoping you could answer a question for me...it might be silly..I don't know:) Would it work if the two fabrics I used were different types?..like a cotton jersey and a brushed poly spandex for the center..or vice versa.. do you think it would wear funny?

    1. Hi Julie! This is a great project to play with mixing different fabric types. In her example, Sara uses a Ponte de Roma fabric for the body and a lightweight woven fabric for the middle piece :) Hope this helps!
