Tutorial Tuesday :: Swimsuit Cover Up from Polkadot Chair

When searching for the perfect tutorial for today, I discovered this adorable Swimsuit Cover Up Tutorial from Melissa Mortensen of Polkadot Chair, using her FREE T-Shirt Dress Sewing Pattern Tutorial. With just a few small adjustments to the original pattern tutorial, you can have yourself the perfect beach-ready dress!

Melissa turned her original dress into this tank style dress by not adding the sleeves. Instead, she simply hemmed the armholes as they were. She also added a drawstring waistband to create a flattered cinched waistline. That's it! This dress is so cute and perfect for both you and your littles.

French Terry Knits, like the one that Melissa used here, make for great swimsuit cover ups because they are so soft and absorbent. A few of my picks from the store:
We hope you enjoy this tutorial! We love to see what you sew up so please send 1-2 images of any project you make with Girl Charlee Fabrics to gcblog@girlcharlee.com and you might see your creation featured in our next KnitPicks!

Happy sewing!

  1. Cute! Would love to see more solid terries -- blues and pinks, for example. Also some subtler, adult patterns that are not stripes. So over matching stripes!
